What I'm SURE I know is that Mike Miller recommends, without exception, using ONLY the BMW coolant. The formulation is designed for both gasoline and diesel engines. So I would say that you COULD put any amine, phospate, and nitrate-free coolant in your car and get similar (if not necessarily identical) results. Valvoline’s Zerex G 05 antifreeze coolant is a long life, fully formulated ethylene glycol-based fluid suitable for passenger cars, light trucks and heavy duty vehicles. p/n 68163848AA, straight concentrate, 53.35 p/n 68163849AA, pre-mixed 50/50, 33.35 This is new purple coolant, the older orange stuff cannot be used. This can change at any moment but is current to my knowledge. Volkswagen, BMW, ford Use blue coolant in most of their current models. Between the two of them they private label most of the engine coolants we will ever hear of.

I can get Prestone for 9.50/gallon prediluted at Wallyworld, but what Ford specs is Motorcraft Gold which is 25/gallon plus shipping and will take a week to get. All vehicles 2013 and newer require OAT coolant so that Zerex will not wotk for them. After testing, the engine and cooling systems are disassembled and examined. I have read that the chemical properties of the OE fluid are more about retarding the breakdown of the various plastics in the cooling system (thermostat housing, exp tank) and seals than it is about the metals in the system. I measured my antifreeze and its only good down to -7, so I need to change my coolant. The coolant is analyzed and assessed at regular intervals. I went to the store and picked up a gallon and noticed this message on the back 'products that contain OAT chemistry are not approved by ford and diamler chrylser for HOAT/G-05 applications. I saw in a few places that zerex g-05 is the way to go. I believe it is the same as Pentosin G11 (which is available via Amazon). I noticed the other day that my coolant was slightly low so I hopped on DT to figure out what I needed. It is amine, phosphate, and nitrate free. What I think we know: BMW coolant is made by Pentosin. Again, I agree, blue is probably best as it is manufacturer recommended, but to say it is higher quality is just an assumption. Have you ever seen undisputed PROOF that the BMW branded kool aid is in fact "higher quality"? I haven't, and I have looked. vary accordingValvoline ZEREX G-05 Antifreeze / Coolant : Product Catalog.

Meets European standards approved by Daimler Chrysler for worldwide applications. You can use the OEM coolant,Ford premium gold,or Zerex GO5 as they all are the correct HOAT coolant. Its a price difference between those is why most say to use the GO5.
